What is a gran fondo?

The Gran Fondo is Italian and translates to “Big Ride.” They traditionally follow the route of the grand tours in Europe and are for the general public.

For years people have asked to see an event that would allow riders who weren’t racing a chance to try their legs on one of our courses. This years Gran Fondo will also follow the new Queen Stage of the BCCC and we’ll be announcing it when the details are finalized.

By definition the Gran Fondo is a not a race and will feature a mass start that allows participants to enjoy the same beautiful course our racers do. At the Baker City Gran Fondo the idea is to have fun, so ride as hard as you want or just enjoy yourself over the course presented by Hammer Nutrition.

What’s the route?

The new Gran Fondo route will follow the same course as Tour d’Horn Road Race which starts from Baker High School headed North on Hwy 30 to Route 203 where it will follow a rolling course through Medical Springs, Union and North Powder. From that point  it will follow Anthony Lakes Highway to the highest point the BCCC has ever traveled. The route has a total ascent of 6476.38 ft and tops out at an elevation of 7,237.53 ft.

The course is 85 miles of some of the most epic riding the Northwest has to offer and it will be followed by a party at the Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort ski area.
